Own correspondent: A clash has occurred between Awami League and BNP leaders and activists over dominance in the char area of Raipura upazila of Narsingdi in Bangladesh. Two people were killed and at least 10 others were injured in the incident.
The clash took place at 6 am on Friday in Mohinipur village of Chanpur union of the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Amin Mia (28), a Saudi Arabian expatriate son of Khorshed Mia from Mohinipur area, and Bashar Mia (30), son of Abdul Barik.
According to local sources, there has been a long-standing dispute between the followers of Samsu Mia, a member of Chanpur Union Parishad (UP) and president of ward 9 of the union BNP,
and the followers of Awami League president Abdus Salam of the same ward. This dispute has led to several clashes between them. The latest is on March 5, when Samsu Mia’s people attacked the village and the people of Abdus Salam group could not withstand them and took positions outside the village. Later, early Friday morning, when people from the Abdus Salam group tried to enter the village, they were stopped by people from the Samsu members. During the clash between the two sides, two people from the Abdus Salam group were shot and killed.
